Order of Operations For Algebra 1

The order of operations has a lot more to it than just convention.  With notation, we compress operations and minimize numeric values.  The order of operations addresses those things.  This way we can deal with those operations appropriately without changing the initial values.  The lessons approach the order of operations in some unique ways, including introducing function notation and asking students to change the operations to make a statement true.

This packet is designed to help your students intimately understand just that.  This packet contains a lot of resources for you, including 2 full lessons, 3 assignments, a bonus PowerPoint, lesson guides and of course reference notes to help promote literacy.

As is the case with all of the bundles and lessons from Math Connected, you can use the materials easily in a traditional lesson, a flipped classroom setting, or a virtual classroom.   If you assign the notes to be read by the students, they’ll further develop their literacy and experience with technical writing.  Either way, they’re a great reference for students.
